We did the following to this pump. We treated this pump like we were doing a typical complete restoration, expect we retained the original finish wherever possible. Pump was disassembled down to the frame and cleaned thoroughly. We adjusted the meter so that it turns and dings. The pumping mechanism is no longer in the pump to reduce weight and for safety. All the panels were straightened as necessary and coated in matte clear for protection. The front and back door ad glass are original AMERICAN ad glass panels. The side ad glass panels have been recreated using mylar under glass.
The globe is not original but reproduction, painted in patina to match. The signs on the doors I recreated based on earlier graphics that were on the pump. If you would like, the signs can just be simply removed, they just screw off. I have pictures of this pump with the signs on and off.
The pump has been completely rewired with new grounded three prong wiring. A dimmer switch is installed, accessible from the side panel. There is also an external on/off switch. The doors do open, close, and lock. It's a little bit of a pain, but that's just how they worked!
